Elements Of Active Directory In Server

Element of Active Directory suggest to the functional area of the AD. Active Directory contains a numbers of elements that allow flexibility in the design, scalability, administration and the security of an AD network. Some of these elements can be modified to fit a future design, whereas other are more difficult to change after making the initial configuration. Each element in AD can be classified as either a container object (One that holds other objects) or a leaf object (One that does not holds other objects). Below all are the Elements of Active Directory.

Domain Controller - An AD hosts the directory services and enables the services that supports IDA solution in an enterprise network. In simple words, Any server that has an AD installed becomes DC. Domain controller is the core of all the services used in the existing domain name. The naming of any directory would be refer as the domain controller where based in the name we can control it.

Domain - A domain is the core administrative unit of a network structure. It is a logical grouping of computers that share a common directory database and security system. Objects stored in a domain are considered vital to a network. For example keydatabase.in is the domain registered with the registrar and hosted every data on server.

Tree - A tree is a hierarchical collection of one or more domains, which is created by adding one or more child domains to an existing parent domain. A domain within a tree has a contiguous namespace and follows a hierarchical naming structures. Like taking an example to this website, keydatabase.in is a domain where webmail.keydatabase.in is sub domain.

Forest - A forest is a collection of one and more independent domain trees. The domain within a domain tree share a common schema and global catalog, and are connected to each other by two-way transitive trusts.

Trust Relationship - A trust relationship is a link that helps a domain to access of another domain. A trust relationship facilitates access of resources to users without the need to create additional user accounts in the domain.

Organizational Unit - An OU is a container that stores the objects of a domain into different administrative groups. OUs are the smallest unit to which administrative authority can be delegated and therefore they are used to manage and resources. An OU can contain objects (Users, Group, Computers, Printers and Applications) and can also contain other OUs with in the same domain.

Site - A site in AD represents the network topology (Physical Structure) of a network. A site is a collection of multiple Internet Protocol (IP) sub-nets connected to each other by using reliable connections. The primary role of a site is to speed up the performance of a network by transmitting data rapidly. A site manages the replication of data within the AD database as well as the authentication process. Site is nothing more than a place in the virtual or may be in logical way.

These all are the different elements of Active Directory in the server where Domain, Domain Controller, Tree, Forest, Trust Relationship and Organizational unit or site has its own functional ability in the server.
